Process instrumentation plays a pivotal role in energy and resource efficiency, as well as in protecting the climate and environment.

Endress+Hauser Canada Ltd. is expanding its product lineup with solutions by German sensor manufacturer SICK. The former’s parent company in Switzerland has signed a joint memorandum of understanding with SICK’s process-automation department, both companies aiming to offer better support for customers in energy, resource efficiency, environmental protection, and other critical areas.

Both manufacturers aim to establish a joint venture for producing and developing SICK technology in process analysis and gas-flow measurement engineering through this partnership.

Shared opportunities, mutual benefits

The global sales network of Endress+Hauser is merging with the SICK sales and service team; the latter currently employs more than 1,400 people in 28 countries and generates annual sales of more than 350 million Euros. Both companies’ process-technology offerings complement each other: SICK makes products that are frequently used in waste incineration, oil and gas, chemicals, petrochemicals, power generation, steel, cement, and the marine industry. SICK and Endress+Hauser have often worked together on an order, project, and customer basis.

This strategic partnership is supported by both shareholder families and the companies’ respective supervisory bodies. Experts from both organizations are now conducting due diligence to determine how to achieve this collaboration and bring it to fruition, using the memorandum of understanding as a foundation. The manufacturers plan to sign the contract before the end of the first quarter of next year and close the transaction in the middle of 2024.

One of the top solution providers for industrial sensor-based applications in the world, SICK has more than 50 subsidiaries and equity investments, as well as numerous agencies. The company has nearly 12,000 employees globally and earned a group revenue of about 2.2 billion Euros last year. The strategic partnership with Endress+Hauser will not affect its core business in factory and logistics automation, which accounts for more than 80 per cent of its sales.

Endress+Hauser and SICK want to seize shared opportunities by combining their strengths in this collaboration, creating mutual benefits at many levels. By working together, both companies can support their customers more effectively and accompany them in the sustainable transformation of the process sector.
