Next-generation TILTIX inclinometers are now available with analog communications interfaces.

The innovative TILTIX line of inclinometers by POSITAL-Fraba now has models with analog communications interfaces. Part of the manufacturer’s ambitious NEXTGEN program, these new units are mechanically and electrically compatible with previous models, with the same mounting footprint. Each one incorporates a three-axis MEMS accelerometer sensor that lowers cross-axis sensitivity.

These new TILTIX inclinometers offer several other programmable features that can modify their performance in response to specific application needs.

With better measurement accuracy

TILTIX inclinometers are designed to measure a device’s orientation with respect to the earth’s gravitational field in motion-control and safety-assurance systems. Among the relevant applications are dynamic positioning of solar panels, rollover warning systems for mobile machinery, control systems for crane booms, and tilt control in material-handling systems, including robots and AGVs. POSITAL also offers acceleration-compensated Dynamic TILTIX models for rapid-motion tasks.

The MEMS accelerometer sensors on the new models boost measurement accuracy to plus or minus 0.1 degrees over the complete range of tilt angles. Another key feature, particularly important for analog control systems, is a programmable function that allows users to set the measurement range of each device through simple software updates. With sensitivity adjustment, operators can set up these models so that their full output range spans the expected motion range exactly, which improves measurement accuracy substantially. Users can also program them to serve as limit-warning switches.

In addition, these inclinometers can be programmed to function as single-axis, two-axis, or two-axis pitch/roll sensors. Multiple signal-filtering methods are available, such as moving average, recursive, Butterworth, critical damping, and Kalman filtering. This allows users to fine-tune signal quality and dynamic response. Both customers and suppliers benefit from these programmable features, as users can easily adapt a limited amount of hardware configurations to numerous applications, from off-road machinery to material-handling equipment.

Customers can order TILTIX inclinometers pre-programmed from the factory or set up onsite with the user-friendly POSITAL UBIFAST programming tool. The new units will be available in either cost-effective fibre-reinforced plastic housing or IP69K-rated metal enclosures. Check the POSITAL online Product Finder portal for the full range of TILTIX inclinometers.
