The 2245-N sound-level meter by Brüel & Kjær

Durham Instruments is Canada’s premier source of industrial test and measurement products by Brüel & Kjær, like the 2245-N sound-level meter (SLM). This robust, waterproof, dust-resistant device can be used in areas with grime, grit, or poor weather, and it helps users to comply with strict provincial guidelines for noise exposure.

Easy to connect to a Smartphone via Wi-Fi, the B&K 2245-N enables operation from any convenient remote location away from the sound field.

Noise Partner app included

This SLM is a versatile instrument that complies with the IP55 standard. Among the tasks that benefit from the 2245-N are checking sound-pressure levels (to make sure fire alarms meet regulations, for example), broadband measurement that requires devices that meet specific standards, and simple product testing to confirm other safety compliance.

Every Canadian province has its own set of criteria for occupational noise levels, to prevent noise-induced hearing loss in employees. Ontario, for instance, has a maximum-exposure limit of 85 dbA, and British Columbia has a daily limit of 85 dbA and a peak limit of 140 dbC. In Alberta and Saskatchewan, these limits can vary with the amount of time exposed to extreme noise. This SLM keeps plants aware of sound levels, to stay below these limits.

The Noise Partner app comes pre-installed in the 2245-N. This app requires little training to use and is designed for simple broadband measurement, general-purpose sound-pressure-level measurement, or basic occupational, product, or noise measurement in the environment. Other features include the following:

  • built-in Li-Ion battery;
  • colour LDC with bright, clean layout;
  • integrated GPS for time and location;
  • integrated Wi-Fi Bluetooth Low Energy;
  • measurement-status light ring;
  • single measurement range from 15.2 to 140 decibels, from typical noise floor to maximum level, A-weighted; and
  • 16 gigabytes of built-in storage for measurement and annotation.

This SLM is recommended for use in a variety of important industries. Durham Instruments deems it suitable for general manufacturing, aerospace, automation, food processing, forestry, the medical field, the military, mining, packaging, power generation, alternative energy, transportation, and research and development.
