The Lakos JCX filtration system

Lakos fluid-handling equipment is available through John Brooks Company Limited, including systems that separate solids from water – like the JCX filtration system. Designed to remove solids efficiently from industrial cooling water, the JCX solution is a packaged separator system for cooling tower basins and remote sumps.

By eliminating manual basin cleaning, this Lakos separator serves users as an energy-efficient, environmentally friendly system with a pump, accessible separator, and automated ball valve.

Minimal maintenance and downtime

With the JCX solution, users save energy by maintaining efficiency in the entire system, while minimizing maintenance, downtime, and water loss and virtually eliminating under-deposit corrosion. They also optimize the effectiveness of water-treatment programs and extend equipment life. This system from John Brooks Company has a flow range from 23 to 273 cubic metres per hour and standard pressure rating of 150 pounds per square inch; higher flow-rate options are available, up to 2,896 cubic metres an hour. An optional solids-recovery vessel is available too.

First, liquid enters through the inlet of the JCX, and its internal Swirlex tangential slots accelerate the liquid flow and solids. Next, solids heavier than water are moved to the outer wall of the separation barrel by centrifugal action. Solids are separated from the main water stream when they hit the gap between the separation barrel and the vortex deflector plate; then they are spun out and into the collection chamber. The solid-free remaining fluid spirals up by force of the vortex to the outlet.

Other benefits of the JCX filtration system:

  • no moving parts to wear out;
  • no screens, cartridges, cones, or filter elements to clean or replace;
  • no backwashing;
  • no standby equipment required;
  • low, steady pressure loss;
  • easy automation;
  • compact, space-saving profiles;
  • effective solids concentration for simple disposal and recovery;
  • no routine maintenance or downtime needs (with automatic ball valve); and
  • minimal or no fluid loss (with solids-recovery vessel).
