Festo’s DHPL is a new generation of competitively priced, long-stroke grippers that offers a host of advantages for high load and torque applications.

Festo Canada has added another innovation to its broad family of industrial solutions: the DHPL long-stroke parallel gripper. Developed from a recently completed production line, the DHPL series consists of competitively priced units that provide a variety of benefits for high-load and -torque applications, all in a light, compact design.

Interchangeable with competitive long-stroke grippers, but with higher precision and zero maintenance, the DHPL series is recommended for stacking boxes, gripping plates and shaped parts, and keeping bags open.

Flexible mounting options, sensor placement

Each DHPL unit offers less than or equal to 0.03 of a millimetre (mm) of repetition accuracy, with three rugged guide rods and a rack-and-pinion design. Although these grippers are light and compact, making them appropriate for today’s smaller footprint machine, they deliver high load and torque grip. Their force ratings rage from 40 to 750 newtons, while jaw stroke runs from 20 to 200 mm.

With these new grippers, machine builders and other end users get more flexibility in mounting options and sensor placement. Positioning pin holes makes sure that each DHPL unit mounts in the exact position of the gripper it is replacing, and jaw interfaces enable the additions of fingers and brackets, which assure the perfect gripping for the part. Pneumatic end-positioning cushioning is standard, and the user can adjust it for optimal performance according to the moving mass and speed. Another advantage of these and other Festo grippers is the opportunity to work within the manufacturer’s ecosystem, which results in less engineering overhead, quicker time to market, and seamless connectivity.

The top supplier of automation technology and technical education in the world, Festo has been deploying products and services to meet Canadian businesses’ digitization and smart-production challenges for nearly half a century. The manufacturer’s parent company, The Festo Group, is nearly 100 years old and is headquartered in Esslingen, Germany, where it supports a broad variety of needs for advanced solutions in factory and process automation. Festo continues to elevate the state of manufacturing with its research and development, innovative products, optimized motion-control solutions, and unsurpassed support.
