The SLS190 series of linear potentiometers

Durham Instruments is Canada’s trusted provider of world-class test and measurement instrumentation from top manufacturers such as Curtiss-Wright Corporation, which makes the SLS190 model of linear potentiometer. The SLS190 series is a new, innovative range of linear position sensors built to offer maximum performance benefits within a highly compact size, in stroke lengths ranging from 25 to 350 millimetres (mm). This device comes with a convenient selection of mounting options and accessories.

With Hybrid Track Technology

This linear potentiometer is perfectly suitable for a broad range of general-purpose industrial applications, for medium-stroke linear position sensing – especially in the high-volume manufacture of original equipment, in which top performance and reliability with competitive pricing and quick dispatch are of major importance. Durham Instruments also recommends this device for use in aerospace, automation, food processing, forestry, education, the medical field, the military, mining, packaging, power generation, alternative energy, transportation, and research and development.

With the proven advantages of Hybrid Track Technology and many unique design features, the SLS190 series has a high wiper contact resistance, so users should carry out operational checks only in the voltage divider mode. Hybrid Track potentiometers should be used only as voltage dividers, with a wiper circuit impedance no lower than 100 x track resistance, or ½ a mega-ohm, whichever is larger. With lower impedance in the wiper circuits, operation will degrade the output smoothness and affect the linearity.

Key features of this linear potentiometer include a short body to stroke length, compliance with the CE safety standard, corrosion-resistant rod end bearings, integrally moulded cable assembly, and light weight. Options available:

  • Compact shaft. Will reduce dimension D by 25 mm;
  • Integral shaft seal. Compliant with the IP66 rating;
  • Extended cable length. The user can specify a ten-metre output cable;
  • Mounting. Body clamp or flange mounting kits can be supplied; and
  • Protective sleeve. For all stroke lengths. Self-aligning beatings only.

Other characteristics include virtually infinite resolution, dither life at 200 million operations at plus or minus ½ a mm and 60 hertz, and replaceable shaft seals that last for 20 million operations.
