Denso primers have protected re-bar rods in wind turbines since 2006.

One of the best reasons to invest in anti-corrosion products by Denso North America is the way they continue to protect structures for years and years. The company’s lines of petrolatum tapes, pastes, primers, liquid coatings, and more provide sustainability for the long term, saving money and maintenance. An example is a series of wind turbines in Ontario, which continue to be protected by a Denso priming solution 13 years later.

Protecting the structures’ intensity

As fuel prices have risen significantly over the 21st Century, there has been a strong push for alternative energy. Canadian hydro companies have been harnessing wind power as a result, for a more sustainable source. In 2006, a renewable-energy project involved the construction of 45-by-1.5-megawatt General Electric wind turbines, located strategically over about 2,500 acres of land throughout Ontario. This installed capacity would have the capability of generating 67.5 megawatts of renewable energy, reducing the reliance of more traditional, fuel-burning energy sources.

Anti-corrosion protection was required for a large amount of anchoring re-bar rods that would support these massive structures and form part of the bases’ foundations. For the best results, maintenance personnel settled on a Denso priming solution.

The workers applied the primer to the anchor bolts at the manufacturing plant to avoid corrosion during shipping and installation in the field. Onsite, they set the bolted rods into concrete pads and attached them to the bottom cylindrical bases. After bolting each section together, they mounted the turbine heads – each one with three 50-foot blades – on top of the tower structures and then connected each turbine with heavy electrical cable.

Thirteen years later, the priming solution is still providing protection to these turbines as they continue to spin, producing energy and directing it into the power grid for the local area. This was just one of many times that Denso anti-corrosion solutions have provided a long-lasting solution, protecting the integrity of structures for a long time.

For the best in long-term sealing and protection from corrosion, it is always wise to trust Denso. Many have, with great results every time.
