The HBM GEN7i transient recorder and data-acquisition system, available from Durham Instruments

Durham Instruments is Canada’s source for world-class industrial measurement devices by HBM Test and Measurement. One of the most versatile products from HBM is its GEN7i, a combined transient recorder and data-acquisition (DAQ) system.

An upgrade of the HBM GEN5i device, this instrument serves as both a strong, portable DAQ system for professional use in the field or in laboratories and a recorder for measurement information that users can operate remotely from external PCs.

Up to 224 analog channels

The GEN7i DAQ system is a robust mobile device has all the required attributes and features of a transient recorder, with a full-featured, low-power Intel Core i7 third-generation Windows computer with a high-res touchscreen and a seven-slot acquisition unit. Durham Instruments recommends it for use in such industries as general manufacturing, aerospace, education, the military, power generation, alternative energy, transportation, and research and development.

Compared to the GEN5i, this upgraded device has a smaller form factor, extra channels, and a higher level of processing power. It also comes with five pre-installed Windows languages and eight pre-installed Perception languages. Its user-friendly Instrument Panel touch interface offers single-touch access to all features for everyday operation and enables workers to use extra software options for analysis and accurate reporting with one touch. Perception Enterprise allows for post-processing; the system disk option moves the internal fixed OS disk to a removable disk bay while ensuring that no recorded data are left in the device after a disk has been securely stored.

Other important features of the GEN7i include: seven slots, for any combination of acquisition cards; up to 224 analog channels; continuous streaming of 350 megabytes; Master/Slave synchronization; PTP time synchronization, or optional IRIG/GOS time synchronization; wake on LAN; and a variety of Ethernet options, like one-gigabyte optical, ten-gigabyte optical, or electrical. Users can also invest in accessories like protective carrying bags, cable pouches, USB keyboards, USB optical mouses, and four different front-panel controls.
