The latest edition of the Ontario Electrical Safety Code (OESC) has been enforced in Ontario since early May 2016. Anyone responsible for electrical installation projects in the province must adhere to the rules and regulations set out in the OESC. That includes candidates for the Master Electrician Exam.

About the OESC

The OESC is published by the Electrical Safety Authority (ESA), an administrative authority that acts on behalf of the Ontario government with specific responsibilities under the Electricity Act and the Safety and Consumer Statutes Administration Act. With public safety as a top priority, the OESC is regularly updated to keep pace with new technology and safety considerations. Revisions and updates are made every three years, so it’s important for all licensed electrical contractors performing work in Ontario to understand and follow the requirements in the latest edition. This will not only ensure safe electrical installations, but it will also decrease the number of costly reworks involved when electrical installation projects are not done correctly.

Help for Master Electrician candidates

It is equally important for those who are preparing to write the Master Electrician Exam, which is administered by the ESA, to be well-versed in the OESC. That’s why CSA Group offers a comprehensive online tool to help prepare for this important exam.

Known as the 2015 Online Pre-Master Electrician Course, this valuable study tool is designed to expand the knowledge and skills of electricians and assist them — and others who are qualified to be licensed — in their preparation for the Master Electrician Exam. The course is designed in a problem-based learning format, and includes a self-assessment component, allowing students to learn at their own pace and identify their baseline knowledge. Students can access the course anytime over a 90-day period, though the course itself takes approximately 36 hours to complete.
