The VelociCalc 9600 multi-function meter by TSI

Chevrier Instruments Inc. partners with TSI Incorporated to offer the latter’s test and measurement solutions in Canada, like the VelociCalc 9600 multi-function ventilation meter. This is a portable, handheld testing device with a menu-driven user interface that enables simple operation and comes with a wrist strap and other accessories.

With its large, high-resolution colour screen that displays multiple measurements in real-time simultaneously, the TSI VelociCalc 9600 guides the user through setup and function with onscreen prompts.

Air velocity, temperature, humidity, more

This instrument is built with work with a variety of plug-in probes for measuring air velocity, temperature, relative humidity, cobalt, and carbon dioxide. The ergonomic design includes a probe holder and integrated magnets that enable attachment to exposed ductwork and other metallic surfaces for hands-free use. Another key feature is a built-in workflow for calculating the percentage of outside air used to determine ventilation effectiveness in a room or building, when used with an indoor-air-quality (IAQ) probe.

Other applications for which the VelociCalc 9600 is recommended: HVAC testing and balancing; clean-room testing; biological safety-cabinet and laboratory fume-hood testing; HVAC commissioning and troubleshooting; and IAQ investigations. It is available from Chevrier with a carrying case, four AA alkaline batteries, a USB cable, an owner’s manual, a calibration certificate, and an optional 17025-accreditation certificate for certain models.

Among the other features and advantages of this device are an input for one K-alloy thermocouple, user-customizable soft keys for fast access to common functions, support for multiple languages, air-density compensation with an onboard barometric pressure sensor and temperature input, and the ability to print data from the device with a USB portable printer. Users can also add optional smart plug-in probes, such as a thermoanemometer, a rotating vane, and carbon-dioxide probes with calibration certificates. Optional probes that are compatible with the VelociCalc 9600: 792, 794, 960, 962, 966, 980, 982, 995, and 800220.

The TSI VelociCalc 9600 multi-function ventilation meter is available in nine designs, one specifically for air velocity and others with varying probes and certification. Another option, the VelociCalc 9630, offers static and differential pressure measurement.
