The HygroLab water-activity analyzer

Chevrier Instruments Inc. makes high-end test and measurement solutions by Rotronic accessible to Canadian businesses. A key example is the HygroLab, an innovative laboratory analyzer for measuring water activity with up to four probe inputs. This unique device comes highly recommended for use in the food-processing, pharmaceutical, tobacco, and coffee sectors.

The tried-and-tested AW Quick measuring function is a major advantage of the HygroLab, as it enables simultaneous or asynchronous measurement in only four-to-five minutes.

Automatically generated measurement reports

Also highly useful for chemical and cosmetics applications, this analyzer includes a modern interface for clear, simple measurement and is operated with an LCD capacitive touchscreen interface. Users can also connect the HygroLab to the Internet for remote control or for free available software updates with various additional functions. This way, they can observe the measurements and then download the automatically generated measurement reports anytime, anywhere. Validation documents (IQ/OQ) are available too. Other features and specifications of this solution from Chevrier:

  • High accuracy, of plus or minus 0.008 Aw at 23 degrees Celsius
  • Fast, easy operation
  • Compliance with the United States Food and Drug Administration’s FDA 21 CFR Part 11 standard, with extra validation documents available
  • Four-channel benchtop display unit that measures relative humidity and temperature as well
  • Regular software updates with new functions and remote access (via desktop or tablet)
  • Operating temperature range from zero to 40 degrees Celsius
  • Measuring temperature range from -40 to 85 degrees Celsius
  • Four HC2 connectors for compatibility with HC2-AW and HC2(A)-S probes, which can measure simultaneity or asynchrony
  • Probe cable extension of up to five metres
  • Aluminum, ABS, and stainless steel housing material
  • Size of 215 by 146 by 79 millimetres

The HygroLab analyzer also has four USB ports – two USB 2.0 and two USB 3.0 (Type A) – for mouse and keyboard use, and additional functions are possible just by adding a Wi-Fi stick. The back of the device has magnetic attachment for the included pen, and there is also an Ethernet (LAN) port built in for Internet access, as well as a power-supply port for the AC adapter.
