motor feedback kit encoders

POSITAL magnetic kit encoders support two- and four-wire implementations of the Single-Cable BiSS Line Communications Interface.

A manufacturer that always pursues the most innovative solutions, POSITAL has launched a full implementation of two- and four-wire versions of the single-cable BiSS Line interface for its motor feedback kit encoders. By combining single-cable connectivity with its cost-effective kit-encoder technology, POSITAL offers a more economical way for motor manufacturers, machine builders, and system integrators to build accurate, reliable absolute-position feedback into servo motors, stepper motors, and robotic joints.

Cost savings from simpler installation

With the single-cable approach to motor connectivity, users receive major cost savings due to the lower component count and simpler installation procedures. This is most evident with smaller motors, for which finding room for two connectors has been difficult before now. The four-wire version provides separate wire pairs for power and data transmission, both of which are packaged in a single cable. For two-wire implementations, modulated data signals share the conductor pair with the power supply. In supporting both types of implementations of the BiSS Line interface, POSITAL makes sure they are compatible with PLCs and controllers by most manufacturers; the company supports BiSS C multi-cable interfaces too.

The interfaces for POSITAL motor feedback kit encoders use the BiSS series of open-source data-communications protocols, which are a very functional group of technologies with advanced features like Forward Error Correction, or FEC. Based on Reed-Solomon coding, FEC detects and corrects transmission mistakes at the receiver, which decreases the need for retransmission. This makes high availability of the interface possible, even in harsh environmental conditions, and ensures that simple hybrid motor cables are usable, even with motor brakes.

The BiSS implementation of FEC is extremely efficient, with a bus cycle time of 62.5 microseconds, which enables top dynamic response. Customers can easily migrate between physical configurations without needing to make application-level software changes, as device configuration is handled in the same way for BiSS C and for BiSS Line two-wire and four-wire implementations. Users can also licence BiSS technology from the BiSS Association e.V for free.

From motor feedback kit encoders to sensors, inclinometers, and more, POSITAL continues to make top motion-control solutions.
