mag drills

Dobco carries mag drills by Hougen Manufacturing.

Dobco Equipment is Canada’s source for assembly and construction tools that reach new heights of innovation. The lineup includes Hougen Manufacturing’s unique series of portable magnetic drills, also known as mag drills. These tools make challenging drilling tasks far easier by bringing the drill to the workpiece, rather than vice-versa.

Manoeuvring large steel or pipe into position at stationary drill presses and work centres is cumbersome and time-consuming, but Hougen solves this issue with these portable tools.

Versatile and powerful instruments

These portable magnetic drills are versatile, powerful instruments for making holes in steel and other metals. They can be positioned either vertically, horizontally, or even upside-down. This is why these Hougen drills are a popular choice for many demanding applications, such as steel fabrication, construction, bridge rebuilding, mining, shipbuilding, welding shops, power utilities, and mobile repair shops.

Hougen’s mag drills come in various sizes from Dobco, with ample options and accessories for higher versatility. There are ten models available, each with its own individual advantages. The manufacturer recommends the HMD115 and HMD130 for extremely tight spots, for example, and the HMD927 has a power feed for high productivity. Other drills have variable speed settings.

A very popular choice among Hougen’s portable magnetic drills is the HMD904. This model is perfect for fabricators, with its light weight, compact size, power, versatility, and capacity of 1½ by two inches. And Hougen has improved the HMD904 by redesigning it with even more features and advantages. The drill has a stronger, stiffer, more ergonomic housing, plus a pilot light for dim or no light and a two-stage magnet with 30 per cent more power when switched on.

Other relatively new features of this mag drill include a slot drive arbour for higher accuracy and faster change-out of accessories, plus a swivel base that allows users to line up pilots precisely with the holes’ centre locations. All of these improvements have boosted the HMD904’s versatility even further.
