modular control system

Festo’s new compact, economical CPX-E modular control system is a high-performance, highly flexible choice for automation system I/O and motion control.

Festo’s newest innovation is the CPX-E modular control system, a compact and inexpensive – but powerful – device that provides a complete solution for a variety of applications. Designed as an EtherCAT master controller and motion controller, the CPX-E offers flexible configuration possibilities, as well as a standardized platform for stepper- and servo-motor motion control.

This high-performance modular control system is a strong, economical choice for I/O and motion control in automation systems for engineers and machine builders, also coming in handy for packaging-machine palletizing units, selective soldering, and water-handling systems. Other relevant applications include parts handling, assembly systems, palletizing, gluing, and dispensing.

Easily integrated into popular networks

The CPX-E from Festo has scalable motion-control functions, such as linear and multi-axis movements like slides and gantries, plus contour applications and robotics. Users can blend its individual function modules into an application-optimized automation platform, and its various components include control units, bus modules, and digital and analog input and output modules. The user can also deploy this modular control system strictly as a remote I/O system with bus module, or as a centralized or decentralized control system by using a control unit, depending on the module combination.

A CPX-E system is easy to integrate into the most popular fieldbus networks, like EtherCAT, PROFINET, and Ethernet/IP. Its powerful controllers with Codesys V3 software include comprehensive PLC programming functions, and its OPC UA client and server function enable easier integration and interoperability in cloud-based host environments, making the CPX-E compatible with Industry 4.0.

Other notable advantages of this new system:

  • Reduced engineering workload, with integrated data management combined with Automation Suite software;
  • Easy mounting on H-rail;
  • High I/O component density; and
  • Motion-control functions embedded into the controller world.

The CPX-E is a complete solution to many user applications, both universal ones and Festo system solutions.
