After a decade of success with the AR600 laser sensor, Acuity has launched its next generation of laser displacement gauges, the AR700 Series. This latest model offers a faster and more accurate way to measure position and object dimensions without any contact.

A need for speed

The AccuRange 700 boasts selectable output speeds up to 9400 Hz when using three-byte binary data format. This means the device can output 9,400 distance readings in a single second — a very unique capability. In addition, the device features a special Trigger Mode, which allows users to initiate sampling via serial command or discrete hardware triggers. This trigger can be used for synchronizing multiple sensors. However, when using this hardware trigger, the maximum speed is reduced to 4500 Hz.

Improved resolution

Acuity's AR700 laser distance sensor offers a three-fold improvement of resolution over its previous model. It is capable of resolutions as low as one sixth of a micrometer, depending on the model. However, all models in this series specify a 0.005 per cent (of the measurement span) resolution.

Compact footprint

The unit is very compact, measuring under eight cubic inches (25 by 50 by 75 mm), which is about 80 per cent smaller than its AR600 predecessor. Its small size is thanks to its efficient design — the unit houses all electronics for measuring, and no external controller or amplifier is needed. Each sensor comes equipped with the sensor head and six feet (two metres) of cable.

Versatile

These laser displacement gauges can be used in a wide range of applications. They are ideally suited for high-speed road profiling, railroad inspection, thickness measurement, road profiling and concrete block profiling in such industries as the lumber, metals and semiconductor sectors.
