CSA Group is pleased to announce that a new harmonized standard, ANSI Z21.1-2016/CSA 1.1-2016 – Household Cooking Gas Appliances, is now available for purchase. The new standard, which provides guidance on the construction of household cooking appliances to better provide safety and performance, now serves as a single resource to meet the unique requirements of both Canada and the United States.
The intent of this harmonization is to provide a common set of requirements to enable manufacturers to build cooking gas appliances that can be certified in both countries and meet the fundamental needs in each country. Using a single, harmonized standard can also help reduce costs, trade barriers and risks, and improve safety.
The document builds on over a century of standards development efforts for household cooking appliances, and combines the previous American Standard, ANSI Z21.1– Household Cooking Gas Appliances, with the previous Canadian document, CAN 1.1 – Domestic Gas Ranges.
The new harmonized standard provides guidance on:
The standard contains requirements specific to the United States and those unique to Canada, and also includes references to the national codes from each respective country. Additionally, the standard specifies differences in units of measurement, and outlines special provisions for electrical requirements and more.
The standard is currently available in English in PDF format.
