N.R. Murphy has been providing dust-related solutions for 75 years

N.R. Murphy has been satisfying customers since 1943.

N.R. Murphy Limited has reached its 75th anniversary this year. That is three-quarters of a century of first-rate air and dust solutions throughout Canada and the United States. When a company stays in business for that long while holding on to its reputation for quality and dedicated service, it is the result of constant hard work and persistence.

A family operation

The N.R. Murphy story began in 1943, when the company was founded as Price Air Conditioning. Five years later, the firm evolved into Murphy Sheet Metal, which focused on the supply and installation of dust-collecting equipment. Company president William Murphy guided this entity for eight years as it continued to grow and expand.

The company stayed in the family when Robert Murphy took over the presidency in 1956, and six years later, Norman R. Murphy became vice president upon the firm’s move to its current Cambridge, Ont. location. In 1966, the latter Murphy bought the company and christened it N.R. Murphy Limited, the name it bears to this day. That year also marked a shift in focus to manufacturing dust-collection equipment.

N.R. Murphy took the crucial step of expanding its business outside of Canada in 1972, when it formed a new company, Murphy-Rodgers Inc., in partnership with Rodgers Machinery. Based in Los Angeles, Murphy-Rodgers was founded to produce and supply dust-collection equipment for the American market. This new company underwent a successful 38-year run until the passing of its president, Otto Seeman – after which N.R. Murphy took over all of the firm’s sales and production functions.

And the company continues to thrive. With Norman R. Murphy still at the helm of a trusted team, N.R. Murphy has secured its place as a top producer and supplier of dry dust-collecting equipment, ranging from small units for individual machines to huge collectors for multiple applications, as well exhausters. N.R. Murphy’s legacy is evident from the fact that much of its business comes from upgrading its own used equipment bought by past clients.
