Durham Instruments is proud to offer AR700 laser displacement sensors, Acuity’s fastest and most accurate triangulation sensors. Designed for both industrial and scientific applications, these versatile sensors have the capability to measure position and distance to within fractions of a micron at speeds near 10 kilohertz.

Meeting an industry need

AR700 laser displacement gauges are built on a decade of success with the predecessor AR600 laser sensor. However, when industry users demanded faster and more accurate non-contact metrology equipment, Acuity delivered. Its AccuRange 700 boasts output speeds to 9400 Hertz and resolutions as low as one sixth of a micrometre. In fact, Acuity's AR700 laser distance sensor offers a three-fold improvement of resolution over its previous model. These sensors specify a 0.005 per cent resolution for all models in the series.

Additional advantages

The AR700 is also more compact than its AR600 predecessor. Measuring approximately 25 millimetres by 50 millimetres by 75 millimetres (under eight cubic inches), the unit is almost 80 per cent smaller than the earlier model. It houses all electronics for measuring, so no external controller or amplifier is needed. Each sensor includes the sensor head and two metres (six feet) of cable.

The units also include a special trigger mode, which permits users to initiate sampling via serial command or discrete hardware triggers. This trigger can be used for synchronizing multiple sensors, though this reduces the maximum speed to 4500 Hertz.

Ideal applications

Thanks to the speed, resolution and compact size of the AR700 sensors, these units are ideal for a range of applications, including high-speed road profiling, railroad inspection, road profiling, thickness measurement and more.
