Portable magnetic drills by Hougen

Dobco Equipment Ltd. makes power drills by Hougen Manufacturing available to Canadian businesses – including the latter’s portable magnetic drills. Hougen has been a leading producer of magnetic drills for more than half a century, crafting them with high performance and dependability at its facility in Swartz Creek, MI.

From steel fabrication and construction to bridge rebuilding, mining, shipbuilding, transportation, oil and gas, welding shops, power utilities, mobile repair shops, and machinery riggers, many industrial markets rely on Hougen’s portable mag drills.

Operated vertically, horizontally, or upside-down

Also known as portable base drills or portable drill presses, portable mag drills are specialized power tools that drill holes in metal, particularly steel, and they are usable in shops or on worksites. It can be time-consuming and cumbersome to manoeuvre large steel pipes into position at a stationary drill press or work centre – but a Hougen portable device allows the operator to take the drill to the work piece instead of attempting to do vice-versa. Another key advantage of these tools: users can operate them in any position – vertical, horizontal, or even upside down. Dobco offers Hougen portable magnetic drills in the following models:

  • HMD 130 Ultra Low Profile. For the tightest spots, with a pilot light. Weighs 10.8 kilograms (kg); height of 170 millimetres (mm); maximum cutter diameter of 35 mm; maximum cut depth of 25 mm.
