Variable speed and power output

Among the features of Gast MVP rotary vane air motors from Wainbee are their variable speed and power output, which users can control by either throttling inlet air pressure or restricting exhaust air. The MVP modular’s efficient design generates more power while using up less energy and creating better power density than other air motors. The modular design enables easy maintenance, simply by removing the back plate to access the internal cartridge. These motors also use a proprietary engineered vane material that is rated for operation to vary operating conditions for the same motor.

Air motors have three primary advantages over electric motors. They allow user control over speed and output; they reduce the risk of ignition of flammable gases, due to the lack of spark; and they can be stalled or overloaded indefinitely with no damage. Expanding compressed air cools the motor, adding another key benefit.

Gast manufactures two basic types of MVP air motors – aluminum construction motors and stainless steel ones. Lightweight and powerful, aluminum motors are perfectly suitable for industrial mixing equipment, motor-driven liquid pumps, chain hoists, and conveyors. Stainless steel air motors are better for food processing, pharmaceuticals, and laboratory work; relevant applications include sanitary mixing equipment, liquid pump drives, clean-room hoists and conveyors, and rotating equipment for food processing or packaging.

Gast’s four sizes of rotary vane air motors:

• MVP02 – One horsepower;
• MVP03 – 1.6 horsepower;
• MVP05 – Three horsepower; and
• MVP06 – Four horsepower, available only in aluminum.

All of these models have flange and hub mounting options, as well as single rotation. 316 stainless steel motors have 32-Ra surface finish.
