The Teledyne Hastings HPM 4/5/6 digital vacuum gauge, available from Durham Instruments

Durham Instruments is Canada’s supplier of measurement devices by Teledyne Hastings Instruments, and this includes the HPM 4/5/6 digital vacuum gauge. This is a handheld, battery-operated tool based on the popular Hastings Gauges that the manufacturer has provided for industry for more than half a century.

The HPM 4/5/6 is compatible with three very popular Teledyne Hastings gauge-tube families – the DV-4, DV-5, and DV-6.

For a variety of applications

Teledyne Hastings has built a solid reputation for devices with unparalleled stability, accuracy, and reliability under the toughest work conditions. Among the relevant applications for this digital vacuum gauge are cryogenics and vacuum insulation, refrigeration and HVAC, power/transformer filling and maintenance, and particle accelerators. Durham Instruments recommends it for use in general manufacturing, automation, and research and development.

Among the notable features of the HPM 4/5/6 are a precision A/D converter and a microprocessor to measure the thermocouple vacuum gauge tube’s signal output. This microprocessor converts the measurement into a pressure reading with the gauge tube’s well-defined output/pressure relationship. A bright, easy-to-read graphic display shows the resulting data.

Other important features include: Torr/mbar/Pascal display units; a battery status indicator; a rugged carrying case; a detachable cable; a protective covering; and compatibility with calibration reference tubes. The DV-4, DV-5, and DV-6 use Teledyne Hastings’ rugged, sensitive, corrosion-resistant, noble metal thermocouples, which are designed for each range; these tubes are also matched and interchangeable without calibration adjustments and compensated for temperature and rate of temperature change.

The HPM 4/5/6 uses a nine-VDC alkaline battery and can operate in temperatures from -18 to 55 degrees Celsius with the supplied alkaline battery, or from -20 to 60 degrees Celsius with an alternate lithium battery.

This digital vacuum gauge promises major benefits for users, including long battery life, proven reliability, easy installation, and low cost. Teledyne Hastings builds its products with a level of integrity not found in more mediocre gauges. With its thorough design, intelligent construction, and proprietary manufacturing techniques, the manufacturer has earned its reputation for excellence, and its strict quality control keeps it at that level.
