tank base protection

Denso has devised a simple, four-step system for protecting tank bases.

Denso North America is the name that pipeline constructors, infrastructure workers, and others turn to when they need proven solutions for anti-corrosion protection and sealing. Among its many great solutions, Denso offers a unique Tank Base Protection System that seals gaps to protect tank chimes and bases from corrosion and water ingress.

This Tank Base Protection System has four easy steps and requires several patented Denso products, including Densyl Mastic and Denso FB 30 Tape.

Meeting the inspection standard

The Denso Tank Base Protection System is strong enough to meet the strict API-653 standard for tank-chime inspection. The procedure goes as follows:

Step 1
First, workers should apply Densyl Mastic to provide a smooth transition between the tank base and the concrete. The compound should be moulded into a round configuration and applied around and in between the circumference of the tank edge and concrete base, in order to fill voids and reduce any sharp edges.

Step 2
Next, Denso Hi-Tack Tape should be applied, beginning at a minimum of one inch, onto the concrete base. Apply this tape circumferentially around the concrete and steel tank base. If workers need an extra layer to cover at least an inch onto the steel tank base, they should apply it with an overlap of one inch or more onto the first Hi-Tack Tape layer.

Step 3
Now apply Denso FB 30 Tape, beginning at a minimum of one inch below the Hi-Tack Tape, and then proceed circumferentially around the concrete and steel tank base. If needed, apply a second layer with a minimum one-inch overlap onto the first layer to cover at least one inch over the Hi-Tack Tape onto the steel tank base. All seams and overlaps must be pressed out and adhered.

Step 4
Mix Denso Weathershield 55 thoroughly to achieve an even colour, and then apply it with a brush as a topcoat to the FB 30 Tape.

With this simple system, Denso can help to protect tank bases from needless corrosion and water damage for many years.
