high temperature petrolatum tape

Hotline Tape is Denso's solution for high-temperature pipeline protection.

Corrosion protection for pipelines is one of the specialties of Denso North America. This includes products that protect pipes in applications involving extreme temperatures. For this purpose, Denso has developed Hotline Tape, a high temperature petrolatum tape that is ideal for pipework above or below ground, under pipe insulation, or on pipes laid in concrete.

Composed of a synthetic fabric impregnated with a special blend of high-temp petrolatum, mineral fillers, and thermal extenders, Denso Hotline Tape is also backed with a thin, high-density polyethylene film for extra protection.

Resists water, acid, and more

This high temperature petrolatum tape offers corrosion protection of pipes, flanges, valves, and related surfaces, with a surface temperature of up to 100 degrees Celsius for above-ground applications or up to 83 degrees Celsius below ground.

To apply Denso Hotline Tape, users must first prepare surfaces by removing all loose scale, rust, and other foreign matter, according to SSPC SP2 “Hand Tool Cleaning” or SP3 “Power Tool Cleaning”; a high-pressure water wash from 3,000 to 7,000 pounds per square inch is also acceptable. The next step is to wrap the tape spirally with a minimum overlap of 25 millimetres, with a 55 per cent overlap recommended for extremely corrosive environments.

During wrapping, users should press all air pockets out and smooth all the lap seams, while ensuring that the overlap between tape rolls is enough to provide continuous protection wherever rolls have to be joined. Denso recommends using an approved outerwrap for applications below ground, and applying a thin layer of Denso Paste HT can help with adhesion for pipes with operating temperatures below 32 degrees Celsius. Denso Mastic or Denso Profiling Mastic may be necessary for irregular surfaces like valves and flanges.

Other notable features of this high temperature petrolatum tape:

  • Compliance with NACE RP0375-2006 and CSA Z 245.30-14;
  • Ultra-violet resistance;
  • Water, acid, salt, and soil-organics resistance;
  • Encapsulation of lead paint;
  • No solvents; and
  • Easy application from arctic to tropical temperatures.

Hotline Tape is yet another reason why Denso maintains its reputation for top protection.
