Essential components for industry since 1973.

This year marks the 50th anniversary of the premier Canadian supplier of essential components for industry: Daemar Inc. For half a century, manufacturers across the country have relied on this company for components with top performance, in such sectors as agriculture, construction, food processing, forestry, oil and gas, and green energy.

Daemar built its legacy through many years of growth and expansion, from a small distribution company to a leading provider.

New sales branches opened

On New Year’s Day, 1973, a new distribution company called Cartec was established west of Toronto in Oakville, Ont. At first, Cartec offered only three product lines: Waldes retaining rings, Seeger metric rings, and Devan keysteel. But the organization expanded its lineup dramatically over the next seven years with Cleveland hardware, KMC stampings, Standard steel, and GACO oil seals.

Cartec had a big year in 1980: this was when the firm opened a sales and warehouse facility in Edmonton, to serve the western provinces. Then, in 1984, Cartec launched another branch in the Vancouver area and changed its name to Daemar, short for Distribution Engineered Marketing.

In 1986, Daemar was appointed as the exclusive Canadian supplier for Kalrez and Rotor Clip. That same year, it opened a sales and warehouse plant in Montreal. The inventory of Daemar solutions increased even more over the next several years, particularly when the company was chosen as the master distributor for Caplugs in Canada and added mechanical seals to its fluid-sealing selection.

Daemar brought its business into the digital era in 1996 when it launched its first website. In 2000, the company opened its first American sales office and warehouse in Georgia, marking the launch of Daemar Inc. U.S.A. Ten years later, Daemar debuted an online catalogue, and in 2012, it expanded its lineup further with disc springs. In 2007 and 2015 respectively, the supplier doubled the sizes of its Edmonton warehouse and Montreal facility.

After half a century, Daemar still maintains its headquarters in Oakville. But it continues to expand as it maintains its international reputation as a top distributor of essential components.
