N.R. Murphy produces cyclones with a variety of specifications. The company advises clients to work with its technical representatives to choose the right design and construction material for their specific applications, especially when dealing with severe abrasion or corrosion. It is also wise to collect a sample of the dust in the environment to give these technical representatives an idea of what size is appropriate. Cyclone performance depends on numerous variables, from density and concentration to velocity and specific gravity.

Cyclone dust collectors by N.R. Murphy have rugged construction designs, using such materials as heavy gauge carbon steel, abrasive resistant steel, special alloys, and rubber linings. The standard designs include heavy gauge wiped galvanized all-welded construction and painting in one of many available colours. Most cyclones leave the company’s Cambridge, Ont. facility fully assembled to allow for quick setup at the customers’ worksites.

The three standard designs available are as follows:

• High Efficiency. Different sizes are available to suit different capacities, from small-diameter units to larger sizes.
• Standard. The most common design, recommended for coarse sawdust and shavings, or for material with few extreme fines. Available in many sizes. Optional long cone spirals and skimmers can be added.
• Chip. Like the standard design, but with a shorter cone section. Recommended mainly for heavy wood chips with minimal fines.
