compact angular position transducers

The KINAX 3W2 compact angular position transducer

Camille Bauer is a premier manufacturer of test and measurement instrumentation, available in Canada through Mod-Tronic Instruments Ltd. Among the Camille Bauer lineup is a series of position transducers under the KINAX brand name – including KINAX 3W2 compact angular position transducers, with non-contact, vibration-resistant technology that outlasts potentiometers.

These compact transmitters are designed for angular position for installation in devices and apparatuses. Typical applications include valves, cutting-blade angles, and water cannons.

Acquiring positions with no contact

KINAX compact angular position transducers work on a unique capacitive measuring principle through which they acquire angular positions of shafts with no contact and virtually no reaction. Each unit converts the result into an impressed direct current that is proportional to the measured value. Assembly is easy, through a synchronous flange or flange adapter, and the range of connection options offers the highest degree of quality and flexibility in installation and use.

These transducers from Mod-Tronic offer low life-cycle costs to users, because of these three traits:

  • Tested top quality. KINAX compact angular position transducers are suitable for ocean-going vessels, and they are explosion-proof according to the ATEX and IECEx standards.
  • Zero maintenance. Each unit has analog output signals from 0-1 to 0-20 and 4-20 mA, with two-, three-, or four-wire connections. Other features include a rotating drive shaft without stops, a low starting torque, and high immunity against magnetic fields.
  • Easy, quick commissioning. No wear, low annual maintenance, and defined angle value.

A precision instrument, the KINAX 3W2 is used to determine angular positions, processing and providing measured values of electrical output signals for the downstream device; encoders are solely used for this purpose. The device is not designed to measure rotation speed, but for installation in industrial plants. Explosion-proof models should be installed in housing with an ingress protection of at least IP20, according to EN 60529.

The KINAX 3W2 can be used from any angle from ten to 270 degrees, with up to 60 per cent adjustable ability. Shaft diameters come in sizes of two or six millimetres, or ¼ of an inch.
