solid state relays

PIC distributes solid-state relays manufactured by Carlo Gavazzi, good for food processing.

One of the many manufacturers with whom Process Instruments and Components Inc. (PIC) partners is Carlo Gavazzi, respected all across North America for its state-of-the-art automation products. Carlo Gavazzi produces the RK series of two-pole solid state relays, which are an ideal choice for use in many different industries, especially food processing.

These compact solid state relays are easy to install and use, with many notable features and benefits; they also come with the required food and beverage certification conformance.

A design to save space

The RK series of relays has a space-saving design, with two-pole relays contained in one single housing that measures only 45 millimetres wide. Users can install them very quickly, and their back plates come with pre-attached thermal interfaces, making them ready to mount to panel chassis or to heat sinks. Certain designs also have pluggable spring terminals that enable quick, simple wiring of control connections.

Each pole on the relays has LED indication to display the control status, which makes the devices easy to use. Their wire bonding technology lowers the thermal and mechanical stresses of the output chips, which allows a larger number of operational cycles than other assembly technologies do, which results in longer service life. And the integrated transil protects the output of each pole against excessive voltage, resulting in less equipment downtime.

PIC carries several different models of these solid state relays, in order to satisfy the needs of many different work applications. For example, the RKD2 model gives users the ability to control every pole independently, and the RK2 model helps to control both poles at once. In addition, the RKC model has control termination with a pitch connector of 2.54 millimetres, while the RKP has control termination through a 5.08-millimetre pitch plug connector.

The food and beverage conformance certifies these relays for 100,000 cycles, according to the UL508 standard. Carlo Gavazzi recommends them for use in coffee machines and vending machines; they also suit extrusion, thermoforming, and blow-moulding machines, plus electrical and soldering ovens, dryers, climatic chambers, air-handling units, shrink tunnels, and other equipment.
