The HBK 2255 sound-level meter by B&K

Durham Instruments is the Canadian source for various test and measurement products by Brüel & Kjær. For instance, the HBK 2255 sound-level meter was developed for measuring building acoustics, and it is all one requires for such applications as airborne, impact, and façade sound-insulation testing when used with HBK architectural sound sources.

Ideal for real-world building sites with more dust and debris than found in functional elevators, from measurement to final report, the HBK 2255 is a lightweight, robust instrument.

App simplifies reporting and analysis

This sound-level meter can measure everything necessary for sound insulation, from 1/1- or 1/3-octave band-level measurements to reverberation time measurements with interrupted or impulsive noise signals. Other relevant applications include calculation of sound-insulation results according to national and international standards, detailed analysis of sound-insulation measurement (including manual adjustment of measurement information for theoretical analysis), and preparation of sound-insulation test reports as per standards.

Connecting the instrument to the Building Acoustics Partner app allows wireless remote control and full workflow support. The app also provides total freedom to adapt the HBK 2255 to onsite conditions, while simplifying both reporting and analysis. The PC version of Building Acoustics Partner is designed to analyze measurement information and create reports in the office, all with high efficiency, with optimal confidence in the data. Users can view measurement data in graphic or tabular form, with level-measurement info that enables fast, easy comparison of source room, receiving room, and background noise levels, plus the variability between positions of the same measurement type.

This mobile app adds high levels of efficiency and control to sound-insulation measurement. Measurement planning and workflow automation helps the ensure that no measurement position is ignored, and simple measurement reuse between partitions helps to minimize the full amount of measurements. Integrated wirelessness in the meter and power amplifier enables complete remote control, without any need to run cables under doors. The instrument automatically calculates results, which allows confirmation of compliance with project targets. Durham Instruments recommends the HBM 2255 sound-level meter for such industries as general manufacturing, education, and research and development.
