There are a growing number of air gauges on the market, but they’re not all created equal. Careful consideration should be given when selecting the air gauge that’s right for your application.

• Ensure that the pressure air gauges selected meet your required minimum pressure range. In essence, the accuracy of most gauges lies within the middle third PSI range. However, for optimal results, it’s advised that your selection covers at least twice your operation pressure when at norm.
• The dial face/size of the gauge should be considered. Ideally, various air gauges have different dial sizes. The gauge selected should be able to lift the space above the gauge installation point.
• Be sure to consider the degree of accuracy of the gauge. Since the accuracy of a gauge is critical in the determination of the overall precision of the process being monitored, it is essential to use a gauge with the most accurate calibrations and a high level of sensitivity to small changes. In this case, the smaller the calibrations on the scale of measure, the more accurate the gauge.
• The size and nature of the wetted area coming into contact with the gauge is also important. Cost plays a role here. The cost of a gauge is highly dependent upon the material making it, but this factor should not lead to inferior quality gauges being selected. The gauges procured should be resistant to erosion by the wetting fluid or material. For instance, despite brass being less expensive, air gauges used to measure corrosive fluids should be made from other materials than brass, which easily corrodes.
