thermocouples

T-PAK thermocouples are renowned for high accuracy and sensitivity.

Thermo-Kinetics Measurement & Control Ltd. remains a top provider of test and measurement instruments, and one of its more popular product groups is thermocouples. These are temperature-sensing elements that work on the principle that two different metals that are junctioned produce a low voltage proportional to the temperature when one heats the junction. The company offers T-PAK thermocouples, renowned for their high accuracy and sensitivity.

A predictable and repeatable relationship

These temperature sensors have a predictable and repeatable relationship between temperature and voltage, and businesses choose them for applications involving extreme heat. Not only do they withstand higher temperatures than resistance temperature detectors do; they also are usually less expensive.

T-PAK thermocouples are mineral-insulated, metal-sheathed probes that users can expose to most environments without extra protection, due to their high sensitivity and accuracy. They have long lifespans due to the outer sheath of stainless steel or other alloys, combined with tightly compacted magnesia, which protects the instruments from corrosive atmospheres. Thermo-Kinetics standardizes on special limit grade wire in most cases, to make sure these devices are as reliable and accurate as possible.

Features and properties of these sensors include the following:

  • rugged construction;
  • five types of calibrations;
  • probes and assemblies in all sizes and sheath configurations;
  • general-purpose or spring-loaded mounting, with or without thermowells;
  • CSA Group-approved assemblies for hazard locations;
  • custom configurations;
  • high mechanical strength, as the tightly compacted powder in the sheaths locks wires rigidly in position, allowing the user to bend, flatten, or twist the cable;
  • quick response, due to small mass and high thermal conductivity, which promote fast heat transfer from source to measuring junction;
  • electrical shielding against electrostatic interference in sensitive temperature-measuring circuits;
  • high insulation resistance, maintained over a broad range of temperature and humidity conditions;
  • easy installation;
  • ability to withstand high external pressure and most liquids and gases; and
  • long possible extensions.

Optional head-mounted transmitters are available, as is in-house calibration from Thermo-Kinetics. Base-metal and noble-metal elements can be custom-made according to customer specifications.
