A favourite with professionals

Zinsser Cover Stain is a whole-house primer sealer that gives users top hiding power both indoors and outdoors. A favourite with professionals, Cover Stain is the best exterior wood sealer available and is commonly used to block stains, hide dark colours, prevent tannin bleed, and penetrate and seal exterior wood. It can be applied under any water- or oil-based topcoat. For best results, Rust-Oleum recommends spot-priming heavy stains with the spray version, and spray paint should always be applied outdoors.

Other advantages of using Cover Stain: it suits both interior and exterior use; it blocks cedar and redwood bleed; it seals water, smoke, and nicotine stains; it sticks to all surfaces with no sanding; and it dries in only two hours.

For the stain-blocking performance of an oil-based primer, with no solvent odour, Zinsser offers its Odourless oil-based stain-blocking primer. A solution with a low level of volatile organic compounds (VOCs), this primer sealer is designed specially to seal tough stains in indoor areas where people are present. Users should allow the first coat to dry for two hours before applying the next one, to get optimal results, and again, apply outdoors when using spray paint.
