Last year, York Fluid Controls expanded its already impressive lineup of industrial pump products by adding Sandpiper’s Signature Series of air-operated double diaphragm (AODD) pumps. One of Sandpiper’s truly unique products is the S15 AODD Containment Non-Metallic Pump, which is specifically designed and constructed for containment of spills.

Elimination of safety hazards

Sandpiper manufactures several designs of innovative containment-duty ball valve pumps. Unlike standard AODD pumps, these products each have a containment chamber and visual indicator sight tubes, which prevent fluid from spilling into the work environment. By fully containing liquids in a containment chamber between two driver diaphragms, these pumps can continue to perform until the end of an operation or scheduled maintenance – even when the main driver diaphragm is breached – with no risk of safety hazards, unnecessary cleanup, loss of fluid, or unwarranted downtime.

Containment-duty pumps are built to handle highly corrosive and hazardous chemical fluids, but are also ideal in applications involving paints, inks, coatings, preservatives, foods, cosmetics, creams and lotions, and even alcoholic beverages. They are also designed to accommodate visual, mechanical, and low-voltage leak-detection devices. Both plastic and metallic options of Sandpiper’s spill-containment pumps can pump up to 1,200 litres per minute.

The S15 AODD Containment Non-Metallic Pump is capable of handling up to 12 millimetres of solids. It also can take a maximum flow of 379 litres per minute, a maximum operating pressure of 100 pounds per square inch, and a displacement of 1.63 litres. Its air distribution valve has a no-lube, no-stall design, and it has optional porting sizes of 1½” ANSI flange or PN10 40-mm DIN flange.

This pump comes with a five-year limited product warranty for defects in material and workmanship. Its robust diaphragm connecting rod is guaranteed not to yield under tension, bending, or compression.
