June 9 is World Accreditation Day, a global initiative jointly established by the International Accreditation Forum and the International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation to raise awareness about the importance of accreditation, and the critical role it plays for industries across the globe. In fact, thanks to an increasingly global supply chain, the rapid growth of technological advancements, and the safety and performance requirements needed to keep up with the changing landscape, testing, inspection and certification services have never been more important. To ensure the competency of the company performing these tasks, and confidence in the products and services provided, accreditation is key.

Accreditation in the building supply chain

Each year, World Accreditation Day takes on a different theme to demonstrate the importance of accreditation across various sectors. This year, the theme focuses on how accreditation delivers confidence in the construction and built environments.

Accreditation, in fact, covers many components in the building supply chain, from construction products and materials, building techniques and practices, to onsite health and safety, environmental impact and the use of digital technology in smart buildings.

Accreditation helps ensure the safety, security and sustainability of construction projects and the built environment by providing a system that helps to manage workplace and environmental risk, drive energy efficiency and demonstrate compliance with regulations. Accredited testing, calibration, inspection and certification services give suppliers, purchasers, specifiers, governments and regulators the confidence that construction sites will run efficiently and safely, use reliable materials, meet regulatory compliance when complete, and will remain sustainable over the long term. It also helps ensure that existing buildings will continue to be safe.
