The Pro-Flo SHIFT pump series by Wilden

John Brooks Company Limited supplies fluid-handling solutions by Wilden, including the Pro-Flo SHIFT air-operated double-diaphragm (AODD) pump. This product is part of a new generation of air-distribution systems (ADS) designed to prevent overfilling in AODD-pump operation, by restricting airflow into the air chamber.

Among the advantages of the Pro-Flo SHIFT: lower cost of ownership; simpler maintenance; and up to 60 per cent in air savings with no change in flow rate.

Higher flow at lower cost

Plant operators must recognize inefficient energy consumption in their processes, which means addressing an AODD pump’s rate of air consumption regarding the product flow rate and how much compressed air the pumping cycle wastes – also known as “overfilling.” Overfilling occurs at the end of every stroke when the diaphragm has travelled as far as possible, yet air still fills the chamber before shifting to the other side. This shortens diaphragm life and wastes air, with no more flow or product being created.

By restricting this airflow, the Pro-Flo SHIFT ensures only enough air is introduced to keep the pumping process moving, accomplished through by incorporating an air-control spool that automatically optimizes air consumption while eliminating overfilling. Other benefits of this pump from John Brooks Company:

  • Unbalanced spool, which prevents stalling
  • Simple pilot spool, triggering which air chamber is filled
  • Few moving parts, for less wear
  • Tight tolerances, which eliminate lost air
  • Compatibility with harsh operating conditions
  • No electricity required

The heart of the Pro-Flo SHIFT ADS is its air-valve assembly, which incorporates an unbalanced spool on which the small end is constantly pressurized and the large end pressurized alternately, then exhausted to move the spool. The air-valve spool directs pressurized air to one chamber while exhausting the other; the air forces the main shaft/diaphragm assembly to move to one side, discharging liquid on that side and pulling liquid on the other.

The Pro-Flo SHIFT offers higher flow rates at lower costs than those of competing pumps. Watch this video for more:
