The Electro-Sensors VS1 vibration monitor

Electro-Sensors test and measurement solutions are available through Durham Instruments, such as the VS1 vibration monitor. This rugged, compact, standalone device is engineered to protect industrial equipment from excessive vibration levels, typically caused by imbalance, misalignment, looseness, or worn bearings. It allows businesses to safeguard operations.

The VS1 facilitates the early detection of a pending malfunction when used to monitor the vibration level of a machine, which eases scheduling demands for preventive maintenance.

For fans, blowers, mixers, more

This vibration monitor is a perfect choice for safeguarding fans, blowers, crushers, compressors, chillers, mixers, large motors, gearboxes, turbines, conveyors, pumps, centrifuges, blenders, and reciprocating machinery. Durham Instruments recommends it for use in such industries as general manufacturing, aerospace, automation, food processing, pharmaceuticals, forestry, the medical field, the military, mining, packaging, power generation, alternative energy, transportation, and research and development.

The three LED indicators on the VS1 easily allow users to determine the output status and the circuit condition just by looking at the monitor. The NPN or relay output can be wired for equipment shutdown or early warning, while an adjustable alarm delay of one-to-10 seconds prevents false trips by allowing users to set a minimum fault-condition time before the output changes state.

The VS1 is housed in a rugged NEMA 4X enclosure (with an optional XP explosion-proof model available) and mounts directly to the measurement point of the equipment being monitored, and its compact size enables installation almost anywhere. The device can monitor over- or under-vibration, with a failsafe connected output that allows alarm and shutdown control logic. An optional SPDT relay is available.

Other key features and specifications of this unit:

  • settable trip-point in RMS vibration velocity units, i.e. inches per second
  • voltage of 24-VDC
  • minimum frequency of 10 hertz at minus three decibels
  • maximum peak acceleration of plus or minus 12 grams (relay) or plus or minus 50 grams (NPN)
  • weight of 0.34 (NEMA 4X), 2.59 (XP), or 2.68 (XP with Window) kilograms
  • operating temperature range of -40 to 85 (NPN) or -40 to 65 (relay) degrees Celsius
