vibratory finishing services

Vibratory finishing has many advantages.

For more than 45 years, businesses have turned to the Vibra Finish team for the best in vibratory finishing services. This process is like barrel finishing in many ways, although different equipment is required to achieve smooth surfaces while reaching difficult cavities in parts with unusual shapes. The vibratory technique also suits a bigger variety of parts, including fragile or large parts that get damaged in barrel tumblers.

Media, compounds, water, and more

Vibra Finish’s process of vibratory finishing services offers many unique advantages over barrel finishing and similar services. For one, it is easier to load vibratory machines, which take less time to abrade and polish. Vibratory machines also clean parts more thoroughly and maintain better colour. Other advantages include easier automation, water and compound recirculation, less media wear, and faster part inspection.

There are six important elements that go into successful vibratory finishing services – in the right combination for peak results. These ingredients are the following:

  • Compounds – Ceramic, plastic, and synthetic media can sometimes be used without a cleaning compound. However, they run at their peak with the appropriate soap. Soap not only cleans the parts, but also cleans the media, keeping it at optimal performance.
  • Frequency and amplitude – For bulky or fragile parts or for a low part-to-media ratio, high speed and low vibrator amplitude are recommended. Otherwise, higher amplitude improves circulation while speeding up the cutting rate.
  • Media – Vibra Finish recommends using the largest possible amount of media to get faster abrasive action and better part circulation. Plastic media abrades more quickly when minimal water is used; it also results in a better finish as the amount of water increases.
  • Speed – Standard motor speed is 1,100 revolutions per minute. This can be increased or decreased. The speed may be changed to accommodate the desired finish. Delicate parts may benefit from a lower speed, and alternatively, a higher speed can aid in maximum throughput.
  • Vibratory load – Industrial vibratory finishing gets the best results with systems that are 75 to 90 per cent full, while a part-to-media volume ratio of three to one prevents damage to critical parts.
  • Water – Better cutting action and the highest abrasive action results from using the least amount of water possible. Alternatively increasing the water flow will aid in the removal of contaminating debris, oils, and cutting fluids.

The Vibra finish team is skilled in creating the appropriate recipe for your process, producing an optimal finish on your parts.
