vibratory finishing processes

Vibra Finish's metal-finishing services employ a variety of different machinery.

For vibratory finishing processes that leave metal surfaces and parts in the best condition possible, manufacturers continue to turn to Vibra Finish. This Mississauga, Ont. company has been serving the industrial community for close to half a century, with a wide range of finishing techniques and related services for many applications.

One of the advantages of trusting Vibra Finish is the company’s direct access to a variety of machinery. Not only does it produce and sell finishing machines for private use; it also relies on its machines to provide top vibratory finishing processes for clients.

Five main machine types

Vibra Finish counts five main types of machines for its services, as follows:

  • Vibratory bowls. Vibra Finish uses three kinds of vibratory bowls for different applications. Batch bowls are built for shorter cycles, resulting in faster turnaround; flow-through bowls produce a uniform action throughout the bowl, with maximum dwell times; and flat-bottom bowls are designed to provide the highest vibratory efficiency, with no hill or ramp to climb. Flat-bottom bowls also reduce user fatigue and improve productivity.
  • Vibratory dryers. These can work as stand-alone units or integrated with deburring or burnishing equipment. Corn-cob dryers employ efficient electric elements to transfer heat directly to cobs. Hot-air dryers are recommended for small, delicate parts on which dust residue must be eliminated.
  • Vibratory tub-style. Long, low-profile tubs are ideal for long, narrow parts, and some have compartments that keep parts from hitting each other. Deep-profile tubs are designed for larger parts. Tub machines can also self-tumble part on part.
  • Material-handling equipment. These machines expand and automate systems. Includes bin dumpers, conveyors (including those with hot-air blow-off), dip tank drag-out systems for rust inhibition, and load hoppers on weigh cells – all of which can form a complete processing system.
  • Centrifugal finishers. Centrifugal machines provide a treatment intensity of up to 20 times more than standard vibratory finishing processes do. Vibra Finish recommends this equipment for small flat parts that often stick together. It deburrs parts without the work-hardening effect of a vibratory process.
