A unique angled roller belt sorter, the ARB Sorter, is available in Canada from Norpak Handling. The sorter is a low maintenance solution for both single or multiple diverts, and has the capability to sort a wide range of products utilizing the patented technology of the Intralox series 400 belting.

How it works

According to Norpak, the secret of this conveyor is the action of the angled rollers built into the Intralox belt as they travel over a diverter module — a bed of gravity rollers mounted along the length of the conveyor. When an item needs to be diverted, the roller section is raised, making contact with the angled rollers in the belt. Then the rollers turn and move the item off the conveyor.

Many advantages

There are many benefits to implementing the ARB Sorter. It is equally adept at moving product to the left or right. And its gentle handling eliminates product damage. Because of this, the ARB Sorter provides immediate and long-term cost savings to the user. In addition, the solution is versatile, offering flexibility in layout design. Another bonus: No additional drives are needed for diverting, as the single conveyor drive does it all.

The details

The ARB Sorter has the ability to sort up to 100 cases per minute with a maximum belt speed of 300 FPM. It has the ability to sort cases ranging in size from four inches by four inches up to about 18 inches by 18 inches, though the maximum case size is dependent on conveyor BFR, speed and chute/spur size.

The rollers embedded in the belting are skewed at either 45 or 60 degrees. For belt speeds up to 100 FPM, products divert at approximately 25 degrees on a belt with 45-degree rollers, and approximately 40 degrees on the 60-degree belt. The minimum conveyor length to travel distance ratio is 2.1 for 45-degree belts, and 1.2 for 60-degree belts.

For belt speeds greater than 100 FPM, consult Norpak for the diverting angle and minimum length to width ratio.
