POSITAL-Fraba manufactures an impressive lineup of industrial tools, like the UBIFAST configuration device. This instrument is used to configure the various parameters available in the company’s successful IXARC programmable encoders. Last year, POSITAL improved the convenience of this configuration tool by upgrading it with many new features and technologies.
A built-in WiFi hotspot and webserver were two of these recent upgrades, as was an Internet-enabled configuration management systems for IXARC encoders.
Customizable for specific requirements
This newly improved configuration device allows distributors, machine builders, and system integrators to limit their inventories of instruments, while producing sensors tailored precisely to the needs of a specific task. Users can stock a limited amount of popular configurations and then customize units with the resolution needed for a specific task through software updates, rather than stock incremental encoders with multiple measurement resolutions.
Powering up the new UBIFAST allows a WiFi-enabled Smartphone, tablet, or laptop to connect to its WiFi hotspot; the configuration interface instantly opens in a web browser. The configuration management system enables registration of any changes with POSITAL through an automatic e-mail interface. Other key advantages of this configuration device: compact housing with WLAN to create HOTSPOT; support for programmable analog encoders; ability to reset encoders to factory settings; ability to copy configurations to multiple devices; and linear-to-rotary converter for simple parameter settings.
UBIFAST is programmable with measurement characteristics that users can customize for specific requirements. Programming can be carried out anywhere – at a factory, distributor’s warehouse, or customer’s worksite. Programmable characteristics include rotation direction, zero set, and encoder output range.
With measurement-range programming, users can set a full range of electrical outputs, either voltage or current, to match a predetermined range of mechanical motion; this improves control-system accuracy. Measurement range can be set to 90, 180, 270, or 360 degrees on single-turn models, and multi-turn models can go anywhere between one and 65,536 complete rotations. Analog encoders are available with buttons on the housing to allow operators to specify upper and lower limits of mechanical motion easily, with the electrical output fully spanning this range.
