The Cox precision turbine flow meter by Badger Meter, available from Durham Instruments

Among the measurement devices available through Durham Instruments is the Cox brand of precision metering products, manufactured by Badger Meter. This includes Cox precision turbine flow meters, which have a variety of process fittings, sizes, and options to suit most applications while offering a wide flow range.

These turbine flow meters have a mechanical linearity never seen before in these instruments. This linearity results in a minimization or negation of temperature-induced viscosity influence.

Good for automation, power generation

The Cox precision flow meter is perfect for standard and high-pressure liquid-flow applications in test and measurement and precision industrial processes, such as in the aerospace and automotive sectors. Durham Instruments also recommends this device for use in general manufacturing, power generation, alternative energy, and research and development.

As liquid flows through the meter, its speed provides rotational energy on the rotor. The rotor blades pass through a magnetic or radio frequency field and generate pulses that are proportional to the flow. Each pulse amplifies the pulse output after being transmitted to the meter electronics. This instrument can achieve a mechanical linearity of up to 100:1, depending on the meter size; the linearity improves to within ±0.1 per cent of reading over the entire repeatable flow range when paired with a flow processor, while providing liquid temperature viscosity compensation.

Among the features of these turbine flow meters are the following:

  • Helical rotor design. Exceptional response speed with lower pressure drop;
  • Comprehensive pickoff selection. Complies with application requirements for temperature and electronic outputs;
  • High-performance ceramic ball bearings. Offering near-perfect roundness and higher Rockwell hardness, these bearings are lighter and more temperature-tolerant than 440C stainless steel bearings are. They also perform well in non-lubricating fluids in cryogenic liquid and water, while eliminating adhesive wear;
  • Six-bladed rotor supports. For better flow conditioning;
  • Facility with NIST traceable standards. Third-party audits can ensure calibration uncertainty, while laboratory correlation can verify that all calibrators get identical results; and
  • Various end fittings. Including AN, NPT, hose barb, high-pressure, and tri-clamp, plus special fittings for specific installation configurations.
