Chains are the heart of Tsubaki of Canada’s business, and the company also specializes in manufacturing industrial sprockets, from double-pitch conveyor to made-to-order sprockets. One of the more innovative products in this group is Tsubaki’s line of Smart Tooth sprockets, which use a patented Wear Indicator technology that enables users to prevent critical component failure and to identify and schedule drive-system maintenance before it happens.

Avoid unnecessary equipment shutdown

Each Smart Tooth sprocket includes strategically placed Wear Indicator pins on one or more teeth. These pins provide a visual indication of whether the sprocket is still within its allowable wear tolerance or needs to be replaced. This Wear Indicator technology is the perfect solution in applications that use capital equipment and in which downtime from unnecessary equipment shutdown is unacceptable – especially when considering the cost of critical drive-system components.

As companies use industrial sprockets over time, the components’ tooth profile areas are diminished from induced loads that the chain roller creates. This reduction in the sprocket tooth profile area accelerates wear on the drive chain roller, which leads to poor fitting, misalignment, and chain wrap as it related to the tooth profile. Acceleration of the chain wear moves exponentially, which results in reduced tension, jumped chains, and drive slipping. With Tsubaki’s patented Wear Indicator technology, sprocket failure can be detected ahead of time and avoided.

Other benefits of using Smart Tooth industrial sprockets:

  • Extended chain life due to predictable maintenance;
  • Elimination of guesswork on sprockets’ level of wear;
  • Lower overall costs of equipment ownership;
  • Advance warning of catastrophic drive failure; and
  • Opportunities to schedule maintenance according to sprocket wear rate.

The Smart Tooth solution is available with several makes of sprockets, including ANSI 80 to 240 sprockets, engineering class sprockets, carbon steel sprockets, and British Standard and double-pitch sprockets with pitch of one inch or more. Wear Indicator technology is also available for both hardened and non-hardened teeth and for sprockets with no hub or with one-sided or two-sided hub extension.

With Canada’s largest sprocket-manufacturing facility, Tsubaki has what every customer needs.
