Tsubaki suggested a stronger, more durable chain for a sorter drive.

Customers in many industries turn to Tsubaki of Canada when they need chains, sprockets, bushings, power-transmission utility components, cam clutches, and other products for mechanical solutions. One of the sectors that often benefits from the company’s distribution services is forestry, in which clients rely on Tsubaki for several kinds of chains.

Tsubaki’s chains for forestry companies are so durable and strong that the long-term cost savings are highly significant. One client has learned this after a Tsubaki product saved it well over $40,000.

A stronger link

The company had been using a 160-2RB style of chain from a competing distributor in a sorter drive. But the chain kept breaking on the conn link every two months, which resulted in a lot of lost productivity, due to the maintenance costs and the downtime. The company needed to find a better solution, and soon. Enter Tsubaki.

The distributor suggested that the company needed to upgrade the sorter drive to a 160SUPER-2RB chain. This new chain had the same footprint as the previous one and other standard ASME roller chains, which meant that it would fit on the same sprocket. But its Maximum Allowable Load rating was around 30 per cent higher than that of the 160-2RB, and Tsubaki’s patented Ring-Coining technology gave it a superior conn-link strength, as well as sufficient fatigue strength.

The forestry company took Tsubaki’s advice, and the 160SUPER-2RB is still working out perfectly. At last count, the upgraded chain had lasted close to four years without breaking – which is a far cry from two months. Best of all, the strength and efficiency of the 160SUPER-2RB had saved the company more than $43,000 and counting.

Tsubaki is a full-line supplier of power-transmission products for the Canadian forestry sector, such as several types of chains and made-to-order sprockets and bushings. With more than 100 years of experience and industry expertise, Tsubaki ensures that its products perform exceptionally while saving money.
