Tsubaki is an industry-leading manufacturer of sprockets and chains that has earned a reputation for delivering high-quality service and cutting-edge technology for 100 years. Its Cam Clutch products have contributed to this solid reputation. Their innovative design and best-in-class features ensure efficient and dependable operation in even the harshest environments.

A broad lineup with a unique design

All Tsubaki Cam Clutch products utilize the same principle of operation — they transmit torque in one direction of rotation, and overrun in the opposite direction of rotation. The company offers various models of Cam Clutch products to address the many different types of applications in industry.

The lineup includes:

  • The Backstop Cam Clutch. In backstopping applications, like conveyor systems and gear reducers, for example, clutches are used to prevent reverse rotation of drive shafts that may cause damage to expensive equipment. The inner race can overrun freely in one direction of rotation, while the outer race remains stationary. Reverse rotation is instantaneously prevented by the automatic engagement of the clutch. Tsubaki’s BR-HT, BREU, BS/BS-HS, BSEU and TXT / CA Series are all Backstop Cam Clutches.
  • The Indexing Cam Clutch: In indexing applications, reciprocating motion applied to the clutch transforms into uni-directional, intermittent motion. A crank mechanism provides reciprocating motion to drive the cam clutch in the forward stroke, and overrun on the return stroke. Tsubaki’s line of Indexing Cam Clutches includes the MIUS, MZ and MZEU Series.
  • The Overrunning Cam Clutch: In overrunning applications, the clutches typically spin freely, though they are sometimes called upon to lock up and drive. This type of clutch is ideal for use with a two-speed drive, where the machine is driven by either an electric or a geared motor. When the gear motor drives at low speed, the clutch engages. When the faster electric motor drives, the clutch overruns, automatically switching between low and high speed. There are many different products in the Overrunning Cam Clutch family. They include the BB, BUS 200, MGUS/R, OB-ON/OF, OB-SF, PBUS, TFS and TSS Series.
