Food manufactures save thousands of dollars when they switch to Tsubaki solutions.

Food processing is one of several industries for which Tsubaki of Canada has provided industrial chain solutions for decades. This manufacturer has a track record of satisfied customers in this sector, which relies on chains that withstand a number of environmental challenges, from sanitation to extreme temperatures and corrosion.

Tsubaki offers examples of food-processing successes on its website, which lists case studies of client experiences with its industrial chain solutions.

Chains with longer lifespans

A chocolate manufacturer was using two strands of an RS100 narrow chain in a forming line; the chain had threaded pins that held trays used to mould liquid chocolate. But the company had problems with chain elongation because of weak lubrication and pin breakage. The manufacturer turned to Tsubaki, which suggested using its RS100 narrow Lambda and an integral pin design. This recommendation solved the lubrication issue and the pin breakage. The Lambda chain lasted for six years – one year longer than the original did – with zero downtime or maintenance, realizing $131,886 in savings.

In another case, a company was using a fresh-food freezer tunnel that ran for eight hours at a time at lower than -25 degrees Celsius. But the nickel-plated chain could not be lubricated because of direct contact with food. Tsubaki advised a switch to a self-lubricating Lambda nickel-plated chain. As a result, the application increased its life threefold, and the customer saved $1,678.

Another company was using a spiral freezer tunnel with a 2060 alloy steel chain with 60 stainless steel split roller links with A2 attachments. But the chain failed due to the split roller opening up; standard riveting caused the pins to rotate on the side plate, caused by tension. Tsubaki inspected the application and custom-designed a 2060 high-strength chain, built with a different stainless steel grade and solid rollers. Spun riveting was recommended to stop the pins from rotating. Results: a 20 per cent increase in chain rating, a 36 per cent longer chain life, and cost savings of $7,168.

These are a few ways Tsubaki industrial chain solutions benefit food-processing companies.
