The Trumpf TruTool N 1000 nibbler, available from Dobco

Nibbling is often a necessary process in such applications as plumbing, coil cutting and tank assembly or dismantling. It is a method of cutting sheet metal with no dust, gas or smoke emissions, using a punch and die to cut the material quickly; the die holder absorbs the punching force, and the punched metal bits fall out in chips.

Dobco Equipment is a great source for nibblers. The company distributes the Trumpf line of TruTool nibblers, which are capable of cutting metal of various levels of thickness.

The benefits of Trumpf

Trumpf’s TruTool nibblers allow workers to cut metal without feed force, emission, distortion or sparks. They are very comfortable to use and maneuverable, with a hollow round punch for 360-degree rotation on the spot and allowance for a clear view of the work surface. Depending on the individual design, TruTool nibblers can handle sheet thickness ranging from 0.13 inches to 0.4 inches.

Three types of nibbler

Dobco distributes three variations of the TruTool nibbler:

  • TruTool N 500: Designed for dismantling tanks and containers, the N 500 can cut steel sheets up to one-fifth of an inch thick, as well as aluminum up to 0.28-inch thick. It can cut in four different directions, including backwards, and is equally useful with material that bends up to 90 degrees. Weighing less than four kilograms, the N 500 is very easy to maneuver, both horizontally and vertically, and particularly useful for cutting coils.
  • TruTool N 700: Also ideal for dismantling tanks and containers, the N 700 can handle steel up to 0.28-inch thick and aluminum up to two-fifths of an inch thick. The nibbler has two exchangeable grips, which allows the user to reach difficult spots in many different tasks in different positions and angles. It weighs less than seven kilograms.
  • TruTool N 1000: This powerful nibbler is designed to cut steel up to 0.39-inch thick and aluminum nearly half an inch thick. Its two-speed drive allows users to cut more quickly when required, but the tool can still cut thick material even at the low speed.
