There are many types of finishing compounds that can be used in vibratory finishing applications. The type chosen depends on the material to be treated, the desired surface finish, and the application and process requirements.

For example, it is important to consider what type of equipment will be used in the finishing process. Some compounds are designed for specific use with tumbling systems, while others are more suited for use with vibratory systems. It is also important to consider whether the finishing process is wet or dry, as some compounds are made strictly for use in wet applications, and others are meant for dry applications. 

Deburring compounds are made to keep the deburring debris suspended during the finishing process to ensure that there is no re-depositing, while descaling compounds have properties needed to remove scales.
