This can be addressed through job and workplace design. Good job design, for example, includes varied tasks that require changes in body position and the muscles used. Using this in combination with good workplace design (i.e., adjustable work surfaces, a foot-rail or a footrest) is an effective way to reduce foot problems.

Appropriate flooring: Hard floors are the least comfortable surfaces to work on. Floor that provides flexibility, like wood, cork, carpet or rubber, is easier on a worker's feet. However, if resilient floors are not practical for the work environment, anti-fatigue matting could be an option for use where workers have to stand or walk, providing a cushioning that reduces foot fatigue. Footwear with thick, insulating soles and shock-absorbing insoles can also alleviate discomfort.
