tilt sensors

TITLIX inclinometers with Dynamic Load Compensation deliver accurate measurement under the harshest operating conditions, including rapid motions, shock and vibration loadings.

The acclaimed TILTIX line of inclinometers by POSITAL has received another recent upgrade. The company has added a new communications-interface option to these acceleration-compensated tilt sensors, which makes them easier to use in mobile machinery and heavy-duty construction vehicles. These smart, rugged devices are now available with CANopen or SAE J1939 interfaces.

With these interfaces, Dynamic TILTIX inclinometers can offer accurate measurement in the harshest environments, such as conditions with rapid motion, shock, or vibration loadings.

A second measurement system

POSITAL has supplemented the MEMS accelerometers used in previous-generation tilt sensors with an electromechanical gyroscope system that measures rotation rates is three axes. By combining signals from the accelerometer and gyroscope sensors, the signal processing system can compensate for the effect of inertial loads on the accelerometer and provide significantly more accurate dynamic tilt angle readings that had previously been possible.

Dynamic TILTIX tilt sensors are perfect for use in heavy-duty mobile machinery, including construction equipment, cranes, agricultural machines, and mining equipment. Not only do they improve operational safety; they also save significant time and expense. A key example is in excavators that use inclinometers to measure arm positions: no longer do operators have to pause work repeatedly to let the instrument settle and obtain clean readings. These inclinometers guarantee accurate inclination measurement, even under rapid movement, with the dual measuring system.

These TILTIX inclinometers can also detect acceleration and rotation rates in three axes, so users can implement additional features and applications. Possibilities include monitoring complex motion sequences on container bridges or in spreaders, as well as autonomous driving in agricultural machinery. They are well-suited for horizontal or vertical mounting. With a measuring range of plus or minus 180 degrees, they contain measuring and signal-processing components in a heavy-duty die-cast aluminum housing, able to withstand shock loads of up to 100 grams. Dynamic TILTIX sensors can achieve a static accuracy of plus or minus 0.3 degrees, dynamic accuracy in the moving system of 0.5 degrees, and a resolution of 0.01 degrees.
