LumaSense Technologies, a provider of innovative temperature and gas sensing devices, has recognized Thermo-Kinetics as the only authorized repair and calibration centre in Canada for its temperature products.

“We are a global company continually striving to improve customer service,” says LumaSense vice-president of global operations, Diane Wotus. “Increasingly complex import/export laws and custom delays adversely affect our customers. By adding authorized service centres, we can provide our customers the support they require.”

In response to the border challenges, LumaSense developed and piloted an authorized service centre concept that started in 2014 with Mississauga, Ont.-based Thermo-Kinetics, a leading manufacturer and distributor of thermal sensing products, and the exclusive distributor of LumaSense products in Canada.

Through the pilot, Thermo-Kinetics technicians apprenticed under veteran service engineers at LumaSense’s U.S. and German-based factories. At the same time, management from both sides developed the supporting business process to enable a variety of factory- and warranty-based calibration and repair services. As a result of the extensive training, LumaSense has now certified Thermo-Kinetics to service all of its E2T and Impac lines of infrared thermometers.

Thermo-Kinetics also made a large investment in a high-temperature calibration furnace to allow for in-house calibrations of E2T infrared thermometers. The company’s previous maximum temperature limit of 1,500 degrees C for infrared calibrations has increased to 2,500 degrees C with the acquisition of the new furnace.

“As an authorized service centre, we have significantly reduced the time and expense involved for customers to receive calibration and repair service on LumaSense products,” says Thermo-Kinetics vice-president, Jeff Dello. “This is truly a win-win-win for our customers, us and LumaSense.”

Thermo-Kinetics also recently successfully completed the renewal assessment of its ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation, which specifies the general requirements for the competence to carry out tests and calibrations. The renewed accreditation will be in effect until February 2017.
