The manual cone valve for Matcon IBCs

Firing Industries Ltd. teams up with Matcon to distribute many solutions, including Matcon’s famous intermediate bulk containers (IBCs). The manufacturer also offers a manual cone valve built for use in the chemical and food-processing industries. It helps prevent mix segregation, which is a common problem with butterfly-valve IBCs. With advanced powder-discharge technology, this cone valve provides a cost-effective way to deliver superior powder-handling capability to a complete IBC fleet.

Mass-flow discharge of free-flowing powder

The manual cone valve is easy to retrofit to any existing flanged IBC and promotes mass-flow discharge of free-flowing powder, which overcomes segregation of powder mixes. This Matcon product is tested and proven as a powerful alternative to standard butterfly valves, which frequently cause particle rolling and core flow.

The unit is positioned in an IBC outlet, in which the cone is lifted by a push on a lever handle. The rising of the valve in the container creates an annular gap, which enables the exit of powder under mass flow. As the powdered material moves at the same time, no particle rolling happens, which prevents not just segregation, but also bridging and rat-holing, which are common problems with butterfly valves.

Every valve has a nominal internal diameter of 25 centimetres and fits a vessel or process with the same outlet size for discharging free-flowing bulk materials. The level can be locked in an open or closed position, or any intermediate position in between (depending on the desired product-discharge flow rate), with a handle. A 1,000-litre IBC can discharge 1,000 kilograms of salt in 90 seconds.
